An Inside Scoop: Tamar Jackson

Tamar.JPG

“My experience training with Hatch has been so rewarding. Ever since my first day at training I’ve felt more grounded and confident than I have in my whole life. I really appreciate how when they’re  making a lesson plan they think about all the different learning styles. For example during our weekend trainings we sat down for a lecture, had a discussion about it, then we got up and did an activity related to the topic. That happened multiple times in the day. Because of that when I’m with my client I am confident that I am able to give them the information and skills to have a happy healthy family.” -Tamar Jackson (Cohort 3, Doula Trainee)

Flashback to Friendsgiving 2017

Friendsgiving 2017, held on the evening of November 12th, fostered a deeper sense of community, as friends and loved ones gathered together at the Sullivan Community Center to celebrate the gift of each other.  Our Friendsgiving celebration cultivated gratitude in a warm atmosphere filled with delicious food, music, and open mic performances from some of our very own doula trainees.  Many of our guests left with raffle prizes such as theme park tickets and gift cards to various places.  Friendsgiving successfully built support for Hatch and perfectly captured what our community stands for.  We truly enjoyed the company of those who were able to come celebrate with us and contributed to our feast of food and friendship.

Nutrition Class - Perinatal and Beyond

by Marina Stankov-Hodge RN, Midwife Apprentice

The fast past city lifestyle can cause us to forget our nutritional needs durring high stress times and and during pregnancy. These are precisely the times these needs should be most important to us.

The class will focus on nutritional needs in the perinatal period including: prenatal, first, second and third trimesters, postpartum, and nutritional needs to support breastfeeding as well as some information on first foods for baby. The approach considers that, although nutritional needs in pregnancy are slightly different, this is the way that most people should be eating on a regular basis with slight individual modifications.
