Kat Whipple, MSW
Kat received her Master’s degree in Social Work from Smith College. Over the last 17 years, she has been involved in developing 4 programs: the largest volunteer mentoring/tutoring program for foster youth in Boulder County, CO (Hope Program 2003), the first weekly reproductive health program and curriculum in Quito, Ecuador (CENIT 2004-2005), the first Spanish sexual assault hotline in Colorado (MESA 2006) and the first transitional living program for female current and former foster youth in Boulder, CO, the second in Colorado (Sage Community Partnership 2008). In 2009, she became a doula because she wanted to better support young parents who did not have the support system they needed. She has worked as an infant mental health therapist in Colorado and a therapist for children and teens at Oakland Children’s Hospital and La Clinica de la Raza. Most recently, she was focused on aggregating Bay Area services and resources for transitional youth to increase accessibility for youth, professionals and organizations.

I have been struggling to come up with the right words to describe how Hatch has influenced my life. I would say that Hatch has ultimately affected every aspect of my life. It has changed how I am as a mother, a daughter, a friend, an employee and how I choose to interact with and serve my community. Hatch has taught me that by practicing self-love and care I am most able to support and empower those that I love and want to serve. I have learned to take time to feed my soul so I can fully give of myself when I am needed. Through this practice I have been able to recognize the gifts I have to offer, and the ways I can grow to be the best version of myself. Hatch has given me and its program trainees a unique opportunity to help ourselves by serving the families in our community. Throughout these nine months I have been challenged in many ways. I have learned what it truly means to be integrated into a community, where you are accountable to one another, you are transparent and honest, you ask for what you need, and you show up when you are needed! I have learned how fierce I can be and that I am a great sister and friend, and that I am also deserving of having great sisters and frineds! Hatch is very unique in its program structure. They offer more than doula trainings, and even more than free doula support, we are weaving together a beautiful network with strong relationships and community resources. So much is given back to the family through Hatch. We strive to empower parents by providing them with the education they need to make the best decisions for themselves, while simultaneously bringing back the village mentality that is much needed to raise our children. Since beginning to work with Hatch I have become a more loving and compassionate human. I see a little bit of me in everyone and a little bit of everyone in me. We can all only thrive if we are working together, united in love, and serving one another. Hatch creates that safe place for people to practice empathy, support, and compassion, for others and ourselves. The seeds planted in me through Hatch will continue to flourish and blossom throughout my life.

Recognizing the power we have to create, nourish, and mold life, the time of pregnancy often awakens a multitude of emotions from past experiences and future unknowns. Devoted to women's fertility health and healthy families, my focus and passion is to provide a safe and nourishing atmosphere for women, couples and new families to take the time to explore your hopes and fears about pregnancy, family, and birth through pre and peri-natal psychotherapy as well as providing continued support through postpartum to the first 3 years of the child's life.
From working with women and youth from East Africa to the San Francisco Bay Area with cervical cancer to physical and sexual abuse, abortions, miscarriages, and infertility, to my personal struggles with fertility, I know how vulnerable and confusing these experiences of life can be.
I use a compassionate holistic approach of therapy which includes, but is not limited to movement, art, somatic, and strength based methods plus more than 20 years of teaching, creating, and performing healing performance art.
